Every once in a while, I enjoy reading the treatises and apologetics of our forefathers in the Reformed faith. One of my favorite exchanges comes from the pen of George Whitefield, in response to John Wesley's sermon "Free Grace." It's a brilliant defense of God's sovereignty in salvation and well worth the time it takes to read it.
The exchange took place back in 1740, serving as a reminder that we who hold to the preeminence of God in all things have a long, rich history. In this present day we find ourselves surrounded by the sort of Arminianism that Wesley advocated. The arguments elucidated by Whitefield are as relevant today as they ever were.
